Student Compositions!

I'm excited to share some recent compositions by my music theory students! All of these students completed a music theory sequence, and each composition reflects a wonderful burst of their individual personalities. Music composition is much like writing your own book—how do you choose the right vocabulary to convey your message? How do you capture a moment? What kind of style best represents you? So many tools, and so many choices to make! Here is a glimpse of that process.

Background: Studied piano through childhood and into high school, then returned to the instrument three years ago after a pause.

Title: "Spring Bloom"

Improvisation based on "Last Night" by Morgan Wallen

Background: Studied violin through childhood and into high school, then picked up piano as a beginner and has been playing for two years.

Title: "O'Muse"

Original composition for extended orchestra and solo soprano

Background: Bassoon player who picked up piano as a beginner, with aspirations of becoming a film and video game composer.
