Bomi Tunstall is a pianist with a well-rounded background in performance, pedagogy, and chamber music. Her approach to performing and teaching emphasizes the communicative and storytelling qualities of music. She holds music degrees from Johns Hopkins University's Peabody Conservatory (DMA) and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (MM & BM), studying with William Heiles and Benjamin Pasternack. Her second master's degree is in piano pedagogy, studying with distinguished pedagogues, Reid Alexander and Cathy Albergo. Bomi has also performed for renowned artists such as Leon Fleisher, Charles Rosen, Boris Berman, and Awadagin Pratt in masterclasses. Her accolades include major prizes from the 11th Biennial International Beethoven Sonata Competition, the Society of American Musicians Competition, the Chicago Piano Duo Competition, and the 23rd Krannert Debut Artists Competition, which resulted in her debut CD publication featuring works of Rachmaninov, Debussy, and Beethoven. Dr. Tunstall has previously taught at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (WI), Frostburg State University (MD), Peabody Preparatory of Johns Hopkins University (MD), and as TA at the University of Illinois. In August 2020,  Dr. Tunstall made Charlotte (NC) her new home and is currently on the music theory faculty at Queens University of Charlotte, serves as pianist for Opera Carolina, and teaches piano at Trinity Episcopal School . She also maintains her private studio, is a frequent adjudicator for piano competitions and festivals in the Carolinas, and performs with members of Charlotte Symphony. She is an active member of Music Teachers National Association, Royal Conservatory of Music, National Federation of Music Clubs, and Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum.
